Why not write a blog post in English on this special day - the 4th of July and the national day of the United States. This is the day when the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776 and this country declared independence from Great Britain.
Fridays are days off for me during the summer so being off today is nothing different than a regular Friday. But there is no mail today, most Americans have a day off and it is a day when families get together to barbecue, go on picnics and take part in other festivities. I am not doing any of those things but just enjoying being off from work.
This morning I Skyped with my "oldest" friend in Sweden. Very nice. We have known each other since we were 7 and now, when I don't have any parents, she is the person who has known me the longest. It is a nice feeling to have someone in your life who has known you for a very long time. And it was fun to speak Swedish which I do very rarely these days.
Before it was getting too hot outside I went downtown Weed to check my mail (I only do that maybe twice a week) and get a few groceries. I had expected to see an abundance of the blue, white, and red colors but there were only a few flags and not much actually reminded me of the fact that it is the 4th of July. I guess people in Weed celebrate quietly. :)
The flag outside the post office.
Probably there will not be many fireworks in Weed but I know that there is a traditional fireworks show in Mt Shasta by Lake Siskiyou. I think I'll pass on that and just hang out at home. That works for me. :)
Roses with a very nice scent.
Carnations at school.
